Anxiety and Panic Attacks

How often do you stress about what could occur tomorrow, next month, or next year? How much time do you spend worrying about things that might happen?

If you experience frequent or debilitating worry about the future that interferes with your work, relationships, physical health, and general wellbeing, you may be experiencing an anxiety disorder.

Anxiety disorders go beyond occasional worry; they can cause excessive ruminating thoughts and panic that is difficult to control. Additional symptoms of anxiety disorders may include:

  • Panic attacks
  • Feeling nervous, tense, or restless
  • A sense of impending doom
  • Trouble concentrating on anything but worrying
  • Wanting to avoid situations or places that trigger anxiety
  • Feeling tired or weak
  • Fatigue
  • Fear
  • Concern
  • Uneasiness
  • Insomnia
  • Sweating and/or trembling
  • Hyperventilation

Other health issues can also accompany anxiety disorders, such as depression and substance abuse.

HOW TO MANAGE ANXIETY AND PANIC ATTACKS

When experiencing anxiety and panic attacks, we are often tempted to avoid our triggers to “outrun” negative thoughts and feelings. Unfortunately, this can make anxiety disorders worse.

The key to preventing and responding to anxiety is understanding why we form certain thoughts and how to manage thought loops. We do this by developing greater awareness for mental resilience.

During our sessions, I will help you:

1. Enhance clarity in order to understand how your brain operates. In general, you have more control of your thoughts if you understand where anxiety develops and how to reset ingrained thinking spirals that cause and exacerbate anxiety.

2. Focus on trigger points and learn how your reward system functions. When you learn how your brain works, you can detach from ineffective, unhealthy behaviors.
