Depression
Depression is a serious mood disorder that affects more than 16 million adults every year. It can impact how you think and feel–affecting your ability to work, eat, sleep, build healthy relationships, and enjoy life.
Sudden life events, such as an illness or a job layoff during the coronavirus pandemic, can trigger depression. You may feel stuck and unsure about how to move forward in life.
If that is the case or you have experienced some of the following symptoms consistently for at least two weeks, you may be struggling with depression.
- Persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, emptiness, and/or hopelessness
- Loss of interest in things that previously brought joy
- Difficulty regulating emotions
- Irritability and angry outbursts
- Insomnia
- Fatigue or oversleeping
- Reduced appetite or weight gain
- Feelings of guilt and worthlessness
- Thoughts of death or suicide
- New pains or digestive issues that do not have a clear cause
People affected by depression also frequently experience anxiety, including overwhelming feelings of worry and fear and/or panic attacks. In fact, depression can often manifest as anxiety.
Depression may seem like a hopeless situation, but it is treatable; you can feel like yourself again and look forward to life.
I specialize in guiding patients through depression and anxiety disorders, using customized psychotherapy treatments and practices to promote self-compassion and kindness. This is what you can expect:
- We will work together to find clarity around the causes of your depression and/or anxiety, to address both the root of the problem as well as the symptoms.
- As you practice improved habits and ways of thinking, you will create new pathways in the brain that further reinforce your positive mindset.
- Over time, it will become easier to think and act healthier toward yourself.
